Eight Views of Korea

Hasui Kawase (川瀬 巴水, May 18, 1883 – November 7, 1957) was a leading figure in Japan's shin-hanga movement during the Taishō and Shōwa periods. Shin-hanga was a movement revitalising the traditional ukiyo-e art, while also taking inspiration from European impressionism, and so gives us a beautiful blend between Japanese and Western expression.

In 1939 Hasui Kawase journeyed through Korea, taking inspiration in the stunning landscapes, before returning home to Japan to complete this series of eight woodblock prints.
